Four creative routes

Ways to give Clifton
its character.

The creative worlds developed for the briefing. Modern Day Clubhouse is the direction currently explored in the website mockups.

Route 01

A World of Your Own

A World of Your Own visual direction moodboard
THE INSIGHT

This feels like us.

Every group develops a world of its own: familiar places, shared habits, private references and colours that gather meaning through the people wearing them. A stripe can hold years of belonging; a lining can carry a joke only the group understands. Clothing gives that shared world a physical form.

THE IDEA

Wear your shared world.

Clifton makes the world you share into something you can wear. Cloth, colour and garment details become the material for an imaginative setting. A fold becomes a landscape; a stripe continues into a place the group recognises. Each story begins with the identity of its people and returns to the actual garment.

The feeling: recognition and possibility. The value: a group’s identity translated into carefully considered clothing.

Art direction & photography +

Creative character

Immersive, tactile and quietly extraordinary. Every transformation starts with a real fold, stripe, lining or embroidered shape.

People and casting

Distinctive adults across ages, ethnicities and body shapes. Natural skin, individual styling and believable connections within the group.

Lifestyle photography

Build physical cloth landscapes and simple architectural sets. Broad side light, believable scale, contact shadows and one purposeful transformation.

Garment-only views

Chalk or pale-stone backgrounds. Consistent front, back, collar, interior and fabric views. Keep fantasy in the editorial imagery.

On-model styling

Eye-level front, side and back views. Neutral standing pose first; relaxed shoulders and supporting clothes that leave the cut visible.

Craft and fabric

Pair the garment with true weave, seams, lining and embroidery. Grazing light reveals relief. Genuine making images provide the evidence.

Website application & design principles +

Finish and colour

Clean editorial detail, almost imperceptible lifestyle grain. Rich but believable cloth; neutral product white balance and no added product grain.

Type and composition

Assured serif or architectural display type with readable sans serif. Spacious spreads; stripes and cloth edges can guide section boundaries.

Website application

Introduce an immersive scene, then the garment and a precise detail. Product and order pages remain flat, clear and composed.

Customer photographs

Keep originals intact in chalk mounts, grouped by customer. Caption the real group, garment and occasion; add swatches outside the image.

Voice and working copy

Imaginative, attentive and specific. “Wear the world you share.” Describe the actual fabric and custom choices plainly beside the expressive headline.

Palette and restraint

Navy and chalk form the framework; coral is a signature. Forest, cloth blue and ochre support the story; customer colours may replace them.

Route 02

Beautifully Particular

Beautifully Particular visual direction moodboard
THE INSIGHT

Details carry meaning.

People can be wonderfully particular about the things that make something theirs. The stripe must be a certain width; the green should recall a familiar place; the lining can reveal a private bit of personality. These preferences carry affection, memory, humour and pride. Getting them right makes people feel understood.

THE IDEA

Care for what matters.

The things you are particular about are the things Clifton takes care over. Give the brand an affectionate fascination with exact preferences: it notices, listens and enjoys getting the details right. Pair the people with the choices they care about, then show the skill that brings those choices to life.

The feeling: being understood. The value: skilled attention applied to choices that are personal to the group.

Art direction & photography +

Creative character

Observant, exact and affectionate. A portrait, a garment detail and a short factual observation form the recurring visual sequence.

People and casting

Distinctive faces, natural gestures and comfortable self-possession. Keep freckles, lines and individual hair; treat particular preferences with respect.

Lifestyle photography

Familiar meeting tables, club doorways and workplaces. Pair context with close observation; warm, clear directional light separates textures.

Garment-only views

Stable pale-stone background, consistent camera height. Whole garment beside exact collar, stripe, lining, cuff and embroidery studies. No props in comparison views.

On-model styling

Consistent front, side and back views on warm off-white. A small gesture can reveal a lining or cuff; follow with an unobstructed view.

Craft and fabric

Show a specific act of care: aligning stripes, comparing thread, checking piping. Photograph cloth flat and folded to explain texture and drape.

Website application & design principles +

Finish and colour

Crisp editorial photography with natural texture and gentle warmth. Very fine lifestyle grain only; macros and products remain sharp, neutral and grain-free.

Type and composition

Confident editorial headings, precise sans serif captions, fine rules and disciplined grids. Use a restrained detail enlargement to give a small choice presence.

Website application

Organise choices by fabric, collar, fit and finishing. Repeat meaningful details across stories. The quote should feel like a carefully prepared specification.

Customer photographs

Use a project-sheet frame: intact customer photo, factual group name and a separate verified detail image. No invented story, filter or reframing.

Voice and working copy

Precise, quietly witty and affectionate. “Particular about the stripe? So are we.” Explain the choice before celebrating the care it receives.

Palette and restraint

Keep Teags’s swatches as the working palette. Paper and navy provide structure, coral small emphasis; use one or two garment colours per story.

Modern Day Clubhouse

THE INSIGHT

Belonging has a language.

Shared colours, a familiar crest and the way a group dresses make membership tangible. People want their team, society, company or circle of friends to look like something they are proud to be part of. Clothing expresses that shared identity while leaving room for the individuals within it.

THE IDEA

Belonging, well dressed.

Clifton makes belonging feel worth dressing for. Present each organisation’s identity with the desirability of a considered clothing brand. Warm, contemporary club culture creates a world people can imagine their own group inhabiting: stylish, assured and socially connected, across work, sport and leisure.

The feeling: pride and aspiration. The value: quality clothing that gives a group’s identity a desirable, recognisable presence.

Art direction & photography +

Creative character

Contemporary club culture with editorial confidence. Aspirational and intimate, with personality across work, sport and leisure rather than one elite setting.

People and casting

Varied adults with easy rapport and individual style. Contemporary grooming, natural skin and diverse bodies; relaxed confidence without period costumes.

Lifestyle photography

Warm 35mm film character, afternoon light or direct flash at dusk. Pairs and groups of two to four on porches, rooftops, courtsides or at dinner.

Garment-only views

Editorial pieces can sit on benches, fences or decks. Catalogue views use pale stone, true colour, repeatable scale and complete, legible garments.

On-model styling

Primary crop: collarbone to thigh, head out of frame. Relaxed shoulders, varied trousers or skirts. Repeat backdrop and light; add full-length fit views.

Craft and fabric

Warm window light, real people and a contemporary workroom. Observe hands, lining, cloth and finishing. Product texture views stay neutral and detailed.

Website application & design principles +

Finish and colour

Fine film grain, gentle highlights and natural skin in editorial scenes. Crisp, grain-free products. Keep navy readable and white garments accurately white.

Type and composition

Refined serif headlines with clear sans serif information. Script belongs to a real club identity or small accent; use measured spacing and restrained rules.

Website application

Open with atmosphere, then orderly product groups. Product and quote pages carry the same restraint, with the chosen garment and practical details prominent.

Customer photographs

A members’ wall: intact images, cream or navy mounts and factual nameplates. Use founding dates only when supplied; never apply the campaign colour grade.

Voice and working copy

Assured, stylish and lightly aloof. “Belonging, well dressed.” Personality can live in editorial lines while product and order information stays welcoming and useful.

Palette and restraint

Retain Teags’s green, cream, butter, blush, navy and blue. One dominant pairing per story; Clifton coral remains a restrained identity accent.

For the Joy of It

For the Joy of It visual direction moodboard
THE INSIGHT

People take fun seriously.

A pub quiz has its fiercely defended team name. A choir rehearses until the passage lands. A tabletop group can spend years building a world together. These pursuits matter to the people doing them. Matching clothing gives that shared seriousness a visible form: a small gathering can suddenly look like an institution.

THE IDEA

Give joy its due.

Seriously well-made clothing for the things people love doing together. Give an everyday group the composure and attention of a formal delegation. The people remain completely serious; the pub quiz, tiny trophy or single die supplies the affectionate absurdity. Clifton takes the clothing as seriously as the group takes its pursuit.

The feeling: recognition, affection and amusement. The humour is in the scene; the people and the clothing keep their dignity.

Art direction & photography +

Creative character

Serious craft, sincere commitment and affectionate absurdity. Treat a small gathering with formal importance; let one ordinary or peculiar detail create the humour.

People and casting

Distinctive adults across ages, ethnicities and body shapes. Neutral expressions and natural grooming. Include quiz regulars, choirs, debating societies and tabletop groups.

Lifestyle photography

Eye-level, frontal compositions and deliberate symmetry. Soft daylight, believable proportions and one clear idea per image. Serious faces; no knowing wink.

Garment-only views

Identical cream background, even light, centred front, back and details. An editorial still life may place a folded shirt on a silver platter.

On-model styling

Full-length, straight to camera, face included. Arms relaxed; repeat distance and light. Cream trousers and simple loafers where appropriate; add fit and detail views.

Craft and fabric

Orderly spools, aligned pieces, hands checking a seam and repeated cuffs echo the precision. Keep actual material studies factual and clearly separate from fantasy.

Website application & design principles +

Finish and colour

Crisp contemporary finish with no added grain. Luminous pastels, natural skin, clear whites and soft contrast. Preserve true product colour and textile detail.

Type and composition

Formal serif statements, restrained sans serif facts, centred frames and generous space. Repetition builds the rhythm; one small interruption supplies the surprise.

Website application

Give quiz teams, choirs, sports clubs and companies equal presence. Editorial scenes express the idea; product choice and ordering remain clear and practical.

Customer photographs

Intact photos in consistent fine gold frames or navy-and-cream mounts. Keep their authentic expressions and settings; apply the ceremony around the image.

Voice and working copy

Dry, assured and affectionate. “Matching is a team sport.” “Nobody has ever regretted a matching blazer.” Use occasional wit; specifications stay plain.

Palette and restraint

Keep butter, powder blue, mint, cream, pale pink and navy, with a small coral accent. One pastel setting at a time; the scene carries the humour.

Moodboards and concept images illustrate art direction; they are not documentary customer or manufacturing evidence.
